In situations where it is necessary to maximize the base pipe diameter, minimize the screen assembly diameter and maintain a large inflow area, Variperm's Thin-Pack Screens meets the challenge.
This screen consists of an inner perforated base pipe covered with our thin stainless steel wire wrapped jacket. A larger diameter stainless steel outer jacket is placed over the smaller inner jacket. This configuration provides an annular void which is packed with silica sand of the appropriate size and type.
The gauge of the inner and outer jackets is determined by the size and type of pack sand being used. The size and type of pack sand to be used is dependent on the formation sands that are to be controlled.
This method affords the end user with the proven reliability of a Thin Pre-Pack Screen and the durability of the best All-Welded Wire Wrapped Screen available.
The primary application for this type of screen would be in open or cased hole, with unconsolidated formations where a gravel pack is economically undesirable. The formation is simply allowed to slough in and gravel pack itself around the liner.
Also, Thin-Pack Screens can be combined with a gravel pack to ensure the successful completion of gravel packed wells. If voids exist within the gravel pack its effectiveness is compromised. Thin-Pack Screens act as a backup and are effective where a gravel pack void would otherwise limit the success of the completion. The minimized outer diameter of the Thin-Pack allows the annulus area of the gravel pack to be maximized. |
